Bill Stuart Burleson, 81, passed away on March 19, 2021 in Spring, Texas after a battle with COVID-19. He is preceded in death by his mother and father Dollie and William Burleson, sister June Degges and husband Bill Degges and step-son David Lyon. Survived by his wife, Sylvia Burleson, sister LaJuan Roberts, and husband John Roberts; three daughters and their husbands, Kristie Folk, Jill Dekerlegand, and Ann Garner; sister-in-law Anna Hoffman and brother-in law Gary Stewart; grandchildren; Mev Luna, Paige Vecera, Taylor Lovas, Trenity Mitchell, Sheyenne Mitchell and Luke Garner; great-grandchildren: Amara Oviedo and Saylor Vecera, Hutson Lovas, Rayne Lovas and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was born on December 11, 1939 to William and Dollie Burleson in Wichita Falls, Texas. After graduating from Aldine Senior High School in 1958, he enlisted in the Army Reserves and trained as a Machine Operator. Following his service, he landed a job at Cleco Air Tools where he advanced to become a millwright. He was a proud member of the local Millwright Union #2232 for 36 years (retired, 2002).
As a young man, Bill had a passion for fixing cars and was a lucky and enthusiastic owner of a 1950’s model red Chevrolet Corvette! In his free time, he frequented automobile drag races and enjoyed hanging out at the drag race track. In 1962 he was married to Johnnie Smelley (of Houston, TX) and together they had three daughters (listed above).
Later in his life he met and married the love of his life Sylvia Stewart (of Houston, TX) in 1988. Married for almost 33 years, she was undoubtedly his soul mate, and they had a wonderful life together. They enjoyed country western dancing and traveling.
Bill loved to take things apart just to figure out how to put them back together. He had a genius mechanical mind and could fix anything. He loved to build things, and took pleasure in cooking, landscaping, painting and creating beautiful objects. Truly a very talented and amazing man! He was deeply political and an avid reader of the news. A force of nature, Bill was determined to provide for his family and give them the life they deserved. His family meant everything to him until the very end. Though his later years of his life were difficult, he always loved seeing his family and spending time with his daughters, their husbands, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bill will be missed immensely.
Services will be held at Brookside Funeral Home - Chapel of Chimes March 26, 2021 at 11:00 AM.
