Beverley Rosemarie Shaw Bent – 65 years – was born in Cedar Valley, St. Thomas, on the foot hills of the Jamaica Blue Mountains. She was the daughter of Richard Bancroft Shaw and Eva Maude Miller Shaw. Beverley was the first in her group to get a scholarship to attend Ardenne High School. After graduating high school she joined the Jamaica Library Service and served all over the island, both at various libraries and on the book mobile. She eventually married Evon Bertram Bent and settled in Mandeville, Jamaica when she joined the Alcan Alumina Company between 1970 – 1982. Evon and Beverley have two children, Robert Andrew Bent and Nicole Antoinette Bent Jones. In 1982, she migrated with her husband to Houston, Texas. She entered the University of Houston where she graduated with her bachelor's degree. Beverley started working in the corporate world and worked for various companies. She then decided to go into teaching and taught at Taylor High School in the Alief School District. There she was a special education teacher. Beverley recently retired and was looking forward to her retirement, but it was never to be. This September would have been Evon and Beverley's 43rd wedding anniversary. Suffice it to say, we love her very much and mourn her loss deeply. Beverley is survived by her husband and children, daughter-in-law Stephanie, son-in-law William, grandchildren Dylan, Skylar, Ava, and Ivy. Beverley is survived by her husband and children, daughter-in-law Stephanie, son-in-law William, grandchildren Dylan, Skylar, Ava, and Ivy. She is survived by her sisters Ditta and Tiny; nephews Patrick, Danny, Brendon, Trevor, Michael, Barry, Clive, Manman, Errol, Clanford, Robert, Teddy, Desmond, Derrick, Franklin, Sebert, Merton, and Gary; nieces Hyacinth, Olive, Pauline, Valerie, Paula, Grace, Gratice, Faith, and Joy; great-grand-nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Ernie; sister-in-laws Clarett, Lena, and Naomi; brother-in-laws Clinvern and Ranley; close friends and especially the Kalooki group.
Beverley was swift to love and made haste to do kindness. She loved her family and friends, holding her children in the highest esteem and cherishing time spent with friends. She loved her grandchildren beyond measure infusing every bit of hope for their future. The memories we made as a family and the love we had for each other will remain in our hearts forever. Family and friends, we have little time to gladden the heart of those who make the pilgrimage with us. So, be swift to love, make haste to do kindness. Move urgently to lighten the burden of others, and the Blessing of God Almighty, the Father Son and the Holy Spirit be among you and remain with you always. So until we meet again may you rest in peace my love.
