Ms. Betty Joe (Dunbar) Williams

Betty Joe Dunbar was born on August 26, 1960, to Lee Edward Dunbar and Audrey Mae Dunbar in Woodville, Mississippi. She was a very quiet and a one-of-a-kind child. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior.

Betty attended public school in Houston, Texas. She was a proud graduate of Douglas McArthur High School. She then attended the Texas School of Business.

Betty married and then began her career with the City of Houston and worked in the water department for 20 years. She then pursued a different avenue and began her career “ministry” with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a correctional officer. She then continued her career with the Harris County Community Supervision & Corrections Department.

Betty devoted her life to God first, family, and work. She was a faithful and loyal servant.

She attended Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church where she was active in Sunday school and served in the greeter ministry. Betty was a firm believer in prayer and sharing the gospel with co-workers, friends, family, and strangers. She used her career in corrections to teach and share the gospel. She stood firm in her faith and always stated “Pray about it, Give it to God, and Let it GO.”

Betty was an avid reader and thoroughly studied the word of God. She loved praise and worship and was never shy to dance like David danced. She loved the color RED and it was her favorite color because she stated she was covered by the BLOOD OF JESUS. She faithfully spent Sundays after church with her mother. She was a proud member of the New Orleans Saints “WHO DAT” nation. The joy of the Lord was truly upon her heart.

Her life was a living example of one her favorite Bible verse, Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

She was preceded in death by her father, Lee Edward Dunbar; her grandmother Josephine Lowe; her brothers Lee Edward, Jr. and Reginald Harris; and beloved Uncle Jose Lowe.

She leaves to cherish her memory by her mother and bonus father: Audrey & James Barkins; her four children: Marcus D. Dunbar, Tiffany D. Williams (Remi), Chakira D. Allison, and Jeremiah D. Allison (Lee); Siblings: Dian Grant, Arthur Dunbar, Errick Harris; Aunts/ Uncles: Viola (William), Terry (Mildred), Joe Anne (Burnett). Six Grandkids and one great grandson and a host of many other beloved family members and friends.
