Betty Jo “Beau” Thompson passed away peacefully on Friday, the 3rd of November, 2017. Beau was born in San Angelo, Texas on the 27th September, 1928. She was preceded into heaven by her loving husband of 56 years, Clark Glenn Thompson, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Craycroft Bundy, and grandson William Bundy Shouse. Beau is survived by her daughter Ann Tucker Thompson; son Clark Glenn Thompson, Jr. and wife Anne; and son Paul Bundy Thompson and wife Pamela. Beau also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Edward Booth Shouse and wife Kimberly; Tucker Shouse; Eugenia Thompson Mack and husband Jordan; Clark Glenn Thompson, III and wife Elizabeth; Jonathan Neal Thompson; Paul Bundy Thompson, Jr. and wife Suzanna; and Caroline Thompson Knapp and husband Wesley. She also leaves behind her sister Kay Bundy Schmidt and husband Rufus, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister and friend, Beau always brought graciousness, elegance and joy to every gathering of friends and family. An accomplished pianist, she could play almost any tune by ear and loved getting everyone together around the piano to sing. Because of her deep Christian faith, Beau especially enjoyed playing hymns and Christmas carols, and often volunteered to play the piano for her church and other groups.
Beau graduated from Lamar High School and attended Stephens College and The University of Texas, where she loved being a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She was also a member of St. John the Divine, where she attended a weekly Bible study, The River Oaks Blossom Club, and The Junior League of Houston, where she enjoyed modeling and her musical therapy group. Beau loved playing golf with Clark on trips and with her family and friends at River Oaks Country Club, as well as sailing on Galveston Bay at The Houston Yacht Club.
The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to Willie Cuffee and her team of caregivers for their tender and dedicated care, and to Maria Gonzales for her long time service to the family.
A memorial service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 15th of November, at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard in Houston, with the Reverend Reagan Cocke officiating. Immediately following the service, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in Sumners Hall.
