Betty Lee McCormick passed away peacefully at Tranquility Assisted Living on Friday evening January 20, 2023. Betty was born in Vernon, Texas, to Oscar Richard Hale and Texas Beatrice Hooker Hale on October 22, 1931. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Donald Gregory McCormick, who passed away in 1993. She is survived by her daughter Vicky Lynne McCormick.
Betty spent most of her working years as a business teacher in Houston and was awarded the Secondary Business Teacher of the Year in 1982 by the Texas Business Education Association. She was an avid bridge player, reader of murder mysteries and very active in local theatre, receiving the Don Beveroth award for her contributions to Theatre Southwest. Her last years were filled with crossword puzzles, reading and watching Hallmark movies with her daughter. She was a character, loved by many and will be wholeheartedly missed.
A graveside service for Betty will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Holy Cross Cemetery, 3502 N. Main St., Houston, Texas 77009. Following the graveside service there will be a memorial service at 11:00 AM at Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Blvd, Houston, Texas 77008.
