Her Life Story Bertha Lee Wanza, also known as “Bibby” was born on October 14, 1937 in Cold Spring, Texas to Annie Rose Wanza and Clarence Bell. She grew up in Point Blank, Texas while attending school in Cold Spring. She later married Alfonzo Washington and to that union ten children were born. She was employed with North Forest Independent School District for 30 years before retiring. She was a dedicated member at Greater St. Luke Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. Matthew Draper for 23 years. She later joined Cornerstone Faith of Deliverance Church under the leadership of Dr. C. L. Mason and remained until her passing. Bertha was known by many for her great cooking abilities and her kind heartiness. She was a awesome fisherman who enjoyed it with a great passion. She enjoyed family gatherings, having all her children and grandchildren around would make her day. She was momma to many and grandma to some. Bertha was preceded in death by her mother, Annie Rose Wanza; father, Clarence Bell; two daughters, Shelia and Valerie Washington; two brothers, Robert and Sherman Bell; two sisters, Zephyr Miller and Mary Wilson; one grandson, Fredrick Washington; one great granddaughter, Chantera Washington. She leaves to cherish her memory: four sons, Ronald Washington (Natalie), Alfonzo Washington, Anthony Washington (Antoinette), Patrick Washington (Michelle); four daughters, Cynthia Washington (Noble), Annette Scruggs (Bergman), Tiffany Tucker (Ronald), Aisha Washington; one sister, Inez Simms; a companion of forty nine years, James Mallard; 37 grandchildren, 73 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren; A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
