Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother Barbara Marie Watts went to Heaven on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 in Houston, Texas at the age of 91. Barbara was born in Shreveport, LA on February 3, 1932 to George Washington Minter and Fronia Marie Crane Minter. Barbara graduated from high school in San Antonio, TX and later attended Southwestern Bible Institute in Waxahachie, TX and the International Bible College in San Antonio. She was ordained by Rev. William Marshall at Bethel Temple in Baton Rouge, LA. Barbara met the love of her life, her husband, Ernest Mohler Watts, while working at Humble Oil Company in Houston. Her original plan was to serve as a nurse in the foreign mission field. God changed that plan, and she and Ernest were married in Houston on May 21, 1955 by Ernest’s father, Rev. Howard Van Watts, a Methodist minister. They had a very loving and committed marriage for 55 years until Ernest’s passing in 2011.
Barbara earned her Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) certification and worked for the Visiting Nurses Association. Though she never went on the mission field, she taught Bible studies and preached in numerous home and ladies’ groups and churches throughout her life. Barbara and Ernest had a loving, open home and a gift of hospitality, caring and ministering to many.
Barbara will be missed by her son, Michael, and his wife, Cindy, her son, Kent, and his wife, Fran, and her daughter, Lori Quinn, and her husband, Benny. She is also survived by her brothers, Tom Dever, and his wife, Johnnie, and Ted Dever and his wife, Vonna. Grandchildren include Kara Harris and husband Michael, Kelly Wheeler and husband Marcus, Chris Watts, Jessica DeSanto and husband Chad, Jamie Allen, Tyler Watts, and Angie Powell and husband Kenny. Great grandchildren are Audrey Huang, Savannah Driver, Aiden Huang, Ellis Powell, and Silas Powell, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff of Richard A. Anderson Texas State Veterans Home and Anchor Hospice for their loving care and to the residents for their wonderful friendships with our Mom. She loved you all!
