Arturo (Art) Leos Perez, age 80, passed away in Houston, Texas on August 27, 2023 and joined his beloved wife, Michele Cooper Perez, in eternal peace. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on January 19, 1943, to Tony F. Perez and Josie Leos Perez.
Art was a man of the outdoors, a hunting enthusiast, and avid gun collector. His professional journey began with Pearl Brewing Company in 1974 when he relocated his family to Corpus Christi, Texas. After several wonderful years in Corpus Christi, an opportunity with Houston Distributing Company was presented, summoning Art and his family to Houston. Dedicated to the beer industry, Art invested 33 years of service to HDC as VP Sales & Marketing. He loved his job and the people he worked with. Art held a special place in his heart for the countless friendships and memories he made during his career.
Upon retirement in 2009, then-mayor Bill White issued a proclamation declaring March 6, 2009, as Art Perez Day in Houston. In addition to his professional achievements, Art played an active role in the community with numerous organizations, including the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and LULAC. He was a dedicated volunteer with the Go Tejano Committee for three decades, offering unwavering support as a lifetime Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo member. Art was also known for sponsoring charitable organizations such as the Rusk Athletic Club, Fiestas Patrias, scholarship funds for the underprivileged, and The Sunshine Kids.
He is survived by his daughters Jeri, Bernadette, Denise, Victoria and Katelyn, and his son, Gentry. Art also cherished his grandchildren: Blaine Fritsche, Chloe’Myranda Snider, and Ira Miti. He leaves behind his siblings, Mary Frances Castaneda, Gloria Castaneda, and Eddie Perez. He was preceded in death by his wife, Michele Cooper Perez, and his parents, Tony F. and Josie Leos Perez, brothers Henry and Tony Perez Jr.
Services will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home – 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079. Visitation on Thursday, September 7, 2023 from 5 PM to 8 PM, with the Rosary scheduled for 7 PM. A funeral service will occur Friday, September 8, 2023 at 11 AM.
