Anton was born on August 14, 1932, to Martha Verunac and Anton P. Kallus, Sr., in Shiner, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army, as Private First-Class in Korea, in the early 1950’s. He married his wife, Mildred, on July 03, 1956, in Weimar, TX. and they made their home in Houston, where they raised their three children.
Anton, better known to some, as A.P., was employed by Houston Lighting & Power (HL&P), for forty-one years, retiring in 1992. He was a longtime member of St. Jerome’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the KJT. After he retired from HL&P, Anton and Mildred spent a lot of time doing the things they liked to do most, which was bowling and traveling. They would take Mystery Bus Tours, to various places across the U.S., not caring where it led them. They also visited Italy and Czechoslovakia.
Anton enjoyed going to Church on Sundays, but he especially enjoyed going to the teen mass, because he liked the music. He cherished the monthly birthday celebrations with the family, and the holiday get-togethers with all the relatives, and he got a kick out of watching his Great-Grandchildren running around the house, making lots of noise, and he would often ask when the boys were coming over.
Anton is preceded in death by his loving wife, Mildred, of nearly 63 years, his parents, and his brother, Eugene Kallus.
He is survived by his sister Evelyn Hayek, of Weimar, TX, his son, David Kallus, and wife Brenda, his daughter, Brenda Montemayor, and his daughter Joyce Johnson, and husband Mike, all of Houston, TX. He is also survived by his seven Grandchildren, Ty Smith, of Tennessee, James A. Montemayor, Mark Montemayor, Emily Johnson, Kristin Johnson, and Shelly Kallus, all of Houston, TX, and Kyle Smith, and wife Jessica, of Waller, TX., along with two Great-Grandchildren, Noah and Abel Smith, of Waller, TX.
Visitation was held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Wednesday, September 29 at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston, where the Rosary was recited at 6:00pm. The Funeral Mass was held at 10:00am on Thursday, September 30 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 8825 Kempwood Dr., also in Houston. Following a reception at the church, graveside services and interment were held at 2:30pm in the LaGrange City Cemetery in LaGrange, Texas.
