Mrs. Anita Louise Garrett Smiley was born January 17th 1955 to the union of Lillian Dixon and the late Leroy Garrett, Sr. in New Orleans, Louisiana. She joined Trinity Lutheran Church and was confirmed at an early age. She graduated from George Washington Carver Senior High School in 1973 with a high school diploma and Licensed Vocational Nurse certificate. On August 19th, 2000, she joined Bueaford Lee Smiley in Holy Matrimony.
Anita was a devoted nurse at both United Medical Center, for 26 years and the Michael E. Debakey Veterans Hospital in Houston, TX for 14 years, after relocating to Houston, TX in August of 2002. Anita served Faithfully at Living Water Community Church for over 10 years where she was in the choir, and as a Sanctuary servant under Reverend Dr. Rodney J. Emilien Sr. Anita was a woman of faith and a student of the Word of God.
Anita was so much to so many. She dedicated her life to her loved ones. She had a heart of gold and could see the best in everyone and every situation. She was a peacemaker that taught love and peace. She offered guidance and was a great role model.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband Bueaford Smiley, daughter Janell Howard, nephew Tyrese Carter, daughters; Tamisha, Sholonda, Tramaine and son, BJ Smiley. Three Brothers: Leroy, Lionel (Sandra), and Roland Garrett. Two sisters: Nancy Howard (Nathan) and Mardean Dean. 16 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved her and will miss her dearly.
