Andy was born July 16, 1928. He was a 1946 graduate of Whiting High School in Whiting, Indiana. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp serving from 1946-1948. In 1953 he joined the Houston Police Department and while there received many awards and distinctions. Andy was a generous police officer, often paying for food for families in need that he came across in his work. He worked as a part of the narcotics squad and in 1963 gave a presentation on behalf of house bill #162 to the Criminal Jurisprudence Committee in regards to the narcotics problem in Texas. He retired from Houston Police Department in 1978 after 25 years of service. On 5 Oct 1957 he married the late Jimmie Yvonne Carswell and they settled in Oak Ridge North to raise their three children. In 1980 he came out of retirement and worked for Houston Distributing for 9 years.
Andy was an avid golfer, enjoying the sport until his health prevented him from playing. He also enjoyed bowling with his wife on leagues until her passing. He was a member of the Houston Police Officers Retirement Association. Andy was a kind and loving father to his three sons, and a devoted, loving and proud grandfather to his grandchildren.
He is survived by three sons, Steve F (Bonnie), Scott D., and Eric (Sheri) Geffert, three grandsons, Steven, Dalton, and Dylan Geffert, a brother Emil (Mary) and a sister Mary Ann (Perry) Lyons and many nieces and nephews.
Andy was preceded in death by his wife in 1983, and his parents. Andy's Celebration of Life will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 2, 2011 in the Chapel of Earthman Resthaven.
