André Bouchard, 74, passed away while surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 25, 2011 after a lengthy battle with cancer. André was preceded in death by his wife Betty Ann Moore Bouchard, his brother Harry Alfred Bouchard Jr., his parents Hazel Hancock Bouchard and Harry Alfred Bouchard Sr. He is survived by his daughter Cyrene Michelle Wright and her husband Marty Wright, his son André Charles "Butch" Bouchard and his wife Krista Frueh Bouchard, his granddaughters Natalie Anne Babb, Caroline Michelle Babb, and Macy Ann Bouchard and his grandsons André Travis Bouchard, Matthew Clifford Wright and Jason William Wright.
André was born and raised in Austin, Texas on November 15, 1936 and attended Austin High School where he excelled both academically and athletically. In high school, he competed in track and cross country and placed sixth in the Texas State track & field championship. André attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he competed on the track and cross country teams, lettered and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. During college he worked at the University Co-op and Toggery. André earned his BBA with honors and was elected to the International Business Honor Society, Beta Gamma Sigma. After college in 1959, André married his high school sweetheart, Betty Ann Moore.
After graduation from college, André served as an officer in the U.S. Army, retiring as a Captain in the Army Reserves. After the Army, André earned his Masters Degree of Business Administration at the University of Texas and obtained his CPA license. After graduation, André and Betty relocated permanently to Houston where they raised their family. André began his business career with the international accounting firm of Haskins and Sells. Next, he served as Vice President, Finance, Treasurer and Controller for Surfcote, Inc., a subsidiary of 3M Corporation, that prepared the pipeline for the Alaskan Pipeline Project. In 1976, André pursued his lifelong dream to open his own business and started an accounting, financial planning, insurance and securities practice. He did this for 35 years until his retirement earlier this year.
André and Betty had a wonderful life together with their family and friends. They enjoyed wonderful experiences before her death from cancer in 2000. André was a devoted family man who always beamed with pride when talking about his family, especially his outstanding grandchildren. He was a lifelong Texas Longhorn fan, holding football season tickets since the late 50’s. His presence at Longhorn football games will be missed. André was a member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church for 43 years.
André’s family will receive friends from 6:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079. A special Memorial Service will be held on September 30, 2011 at 1:00p.m. at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Houston. There will be a reception at the church following the service. A private burial will take place at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery in Austin, Texas. The family thanks everyone for their outpouring of love and support.
