Amy Hughes Teufel

Amy Hughes Teufel, age 61, of Houston, TX passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Thursday, the 22nd of April 2021. She succumbed to a systemic blood condition that led to multi-organ failure. Amy will be remembered as a loving wife, aunt and friend.

A native Houstonian, Amy was born on the 19th of May 1959, to George O’Kelley Hughes II and Betty Jane Hughes. After graduating from Bellaire High School in 1977, she went on to study Fashion Merchandising and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Sam Houston State University. While attending college, Amy met her future husband Randy Teufel. They married in 1986 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church where they continue to be members. Amy was employed in the oil and gas industry for a short time prior to pursuing a career in insurance claims.

After retirement, Amy refocused her energy to volunteering within Harris County. She was a member of Memorial West Republican Women, where she served as president for one year. Amy became a member of the Bayou Bend Docents with The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. She also enjoyed her volunteer commitments to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, serving on the Livestock and the Rodeo Merchandise Committees. Amy became an avid Beatles fan when she received her first album as an Easter gift at the age of six. This inspired her love of all things British, ultimately leading to several memorable trips to the United Kingdom. She and Randy enjoyed traveling to Europe, Central America, the Caribbean and Mexico. Throughout the years, Amy and Randy were loving parents to a variety of four-legged animals, including dogs and horses.

Amy was preceded in death by her parents George O’Kelley Hughes II and Betty Jane Hughes. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Randy Teufel, her brother, Kelley Hughes of Missouri City, TX, niece Jennifer Ford, husband Brad and great-niece Grace of Houston, nephews Joshua Hughes and Jacob Hughes of Houston, and sister-in-law Martha Hughes and her husband Larry Hamm also of Houston.

A memorial service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 8th of May, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent grand foyer.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed toward the SPCA Houston or the Bayou Bend Collection.
