Allen graduated from the University of Georgia and was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. He was a longtime member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and was a dedicated usher for many years. He also volunteered as a Stephen Minister, as well as a mentor with the Kids Hope program. He volunteered at Texas Children’s Hospital holding and rocking premature babies, as well as being a volunteer for CCSD food bank. His greatest joy was reading to Hannah, Hunter, and their classmates every week throughout their elementary school years.
Allen is survived by his daughters, Dale C. Aurich and husband, James D. Aurich, and Taye H. Cairnes; grandchildren, Hunter Aurich, and Hannah Grace Aurich; great-granddaughter, Ava Marie Bonner; sister-in-law, Margaret Cairnes; and niece & nephew, Chris and Tom Calhoun, and Jeff Cairnes. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Zelma and Wade Wesley Cairnes, and his brother, Lewis Cairnes.
A memorial service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 17th of August, in the sanctuary of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road in Houston, where Dr. Linda Christians, Executive Pastor, is to officiate.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial donations may be directed towards Christian Community Service Center, PO Box 27924, Houston, TX 77027.
