Son of the late Lillian “Oriska” Gordan and Alcide Boutte, Allen Joseph Boutte was born January 19, 1946 in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. He and his older brother Edward Mouton grew up in Beaumont, Texas on the “south end” of town. After the death of his mother, his dad later remarried and he became a big brother to Othello Batiste, Eric and Alcide Jr.
Allen attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic School as a young boy and entered into the Catholic faith at a very young age where he attended mass regularly learning Latin and becoming a devoted altar boy. He was given the nickname “Jack Rabbit” because he ran fast and had big ears for a kid his age. As a young child, as soon as school was out for the summer, he would head to Opelousas, Louisiana to spend time with extended family and friends. These special summer visits developed many life-long bonds while connecting Allen to his strong familial roots.
In high school, Allen was a well-rounded student, joining the band and the basketball team, and enjoyed lots of success in both. Always one to stand out from others, he attended Lamar University where he was a PROUD CARDINAL and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree.
After college, he met his wife, a young Viola Marie Jacquo. They united in holy matrimony on June 2, 1973 and their union was blessed with two children, Quinton and Raegan. They were married for almost 46 years until her death in 2019.
Shortly after marriage, Allen used his skills and wit in sales and became the first African-American to head Coca-Cola Company’s southern region of sales. As a testimony to his work ethic and the Beaumont community, he was selected as part of the first Leadership Beaumont class. Coincidentally, Mr C.W. Conns (owner of Conns Appliance),also a member of this first class, recruited him to be lead sales for Conns Appliance where he worked with many colleagues and served thousands of customers throughout Southeast Texas. He then went on to join his brother Eric at HRE, Inc. as Director of Sales. He retired as a dedicated philanthropist where he formed the Oriska Foundation and gave generously to Catholic, social and civic organizations throughout the community and the country. Additionally, he was most proud of the direct impact he had in changing and helping people improve their lives through his time, service and shared resources.
Fondly referred to by the family as Uncle Jack, he will always be known for his sense of humor, love of sports, joy of live music, fishing, casinos and “going out.” He was also known to “solve all the problems of the world” as he enjoyed a great debate in politics and world issues. The quintessential social butterfly, he was the type of guy that would get to know all his neighbors and call up to 20 friends a day with a funny story or two.
A devoted Catholic, he was a proud member of the Knights of Saint Peter Claver for 18 years. He gave his time and resources to The Saint Paul Society, St. Mary’s Bazaar, Our Mother Mercy Catholic Church (Beaumont) and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church (Beaumont). Because of the influence that the nuns of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament had on him while attending grade school, he became a great benefactor of the order later in life. One of his most fond moments of his life included a visit to the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament’s “Motherhouse”in Pennsylvania where he saw the room where Sister Katherine Drexel lived. His daily devotions also included the rosary, novenas and adorations.
He leaves to cherish in his memory his two children Quinton and Raegan, one grandson Cassius, brothers Eric (Regina) and Alcide Jr (Raquel), sister-in law Elnora Mouton, Goddaughter Arlette Mouton-Baker (Jerry), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents Lillian and Alcide, his wife Viola and brothers Edward Mouton and Othello Baptiste, Jr. He will be remembered as a devoted Christian and family man who was a friend to all.
