Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023 from 10:00 AM until funeral service at 12:00 PM at Jones Funeral Home Chapel 715 Sixth Street Morgan City, LA. Burial will follow in the Morgan City Cemetery.
Melvin attended St. Mary Parish School System were he later received his diploma at MCHS in Morgan City, LA. He was employed by an oilfield company, the city of Lafayette and the city of St. Martinsville, LA; He worked at a paint blaster company and then later becoming disable.
Melvin leaves to cherish his memory his only daughter; LaKeisha Johnson of Foley, Alabama, a brother, Grant (Justine) Wesley of Patterson, LA., seven sisters; Doris Wiggins of Donaldsonville, LA., Stella Lewis of Verdunville, LA., Margaret Dugar and Wanda Kay Jackson both of Houston, TX., Linda Dearing, Mary Helen Hunter and Frankie Mae (James) Broussard all of Lafayette, LA; four sister-in-laws, Betty Wesley, Laura Hunter, Deatrel Hunter, and Floydell Hunter, two godchildren; Tierra LaSha Hunter and Nickolas Joseph Levison, Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Wesley Hunter Gray and Alfred Hunter, Sr., maternal and paternal grandparents, Tom and Dolly Wesley and Grant and Elma Hunter, three uncles; James Randal, JC Wesley and Burnell Wesley, two aunties; Vidella Stewart and Helen Skylar, six brothers, Albert Sylvester, Alfred Wesley, Jr., Milton Lee Hunter, Sidney Hunter, Joseph Hunter and Minister Bennie Earl Hunter; two sisters, Dorothy Ann Hunter and Dorothy Nell Hunter, two nephews, Herman Dugar and Roger Solete, one niece, Laura Dugar; five brother-in-laws, Donald Dearing, Louis Wiggins, Sr., Raymond Jackson, Arthur Dugar and Clifton Lewis.
