Paul David Findley, age 92, passed away on June 22, 2024, in Hot Springs, Arkansas surrounded by family. Born on July 25, 1931, in Red Level, Alabama, he was the son of Hicks Bazzel "Pete" Findley and Mary Clyde Garrason Findley. Paul was predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife for 68 years Joyce Wallace Findley, and his sisters Mae White and Shirley Kinney.
Paul graduated from Red Level High School in 1950 where he played football and basketball. He received his Associates degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Houston.
Paul proudly served in the Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. Following his military service, he embarked on a successful career with the Southern Pacific Railroad and Cotton Belt Railroad, dedicating over 30 years to the industry.
Paul was an active member of White Hall United Methodist Church and Piney Grove United Methodist Church. Paul was a Godly man and passed his faith down to his children and grandchildren. When asked by a visiting pastor if he was saved, he quoted John 3:15. “Whoever believes in Him shall have everlasting life.” His commitment to his faith was matched by his dedication to the community through his involvement in the Cade Rothwell Lodge in Texas, where he was a Past Master and a 62 year member of the Grand Lodge of Texas. He was Past Master of the Hot Springs Lodge. He served as Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a Demolay Dad. Paul was a 33 degree Scottish Rite.
Paul enjoyed hunting and fishing. He taught many children how to fish off the dock at the lake house he built with his wife after retiring.
Paul is survived by his daughter Paula Denise Findley, son Garry Paul Findley (Shalah), grandson Ian Hunter Findley, and three adopted granddaughters: Mary Margaret Gay, Jane McMillan and Pam Craig. He also leaves behind his great-grandson Charlie Allen Craig, siblings Roy Findley, Betty Bryant, and Robert Findley, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and his beloved canine companions, Missy and Spike.
The family would like to thank Mrs. Katherine Brown for her loving care and kindness for their Dad. The HUGS ministry brightened his day by sending cards, calling to check on him and his family, visiting, and praying for him and his family. They would also like to thank the nursing staff at Chi St. Vincent 4th floor North West for their care. And in his final week, Dierksen Hospice for their outstanding care, prayers and support for our family.
Pallbearers include Ian Findley, Ed White, Robert Dale Findley, Tyler Kinney, Garrett Ash, and Ryan Ash.
Donations to the American Cancer Society in honor of Paul will be greatly appreciated.
There will be a visitation held in Gross Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, June 27, 2024 from 5-7pm with a funeral service to follow the next day, June 28, 2024, at 10:00am. The graveside service will be held on Saturday June 29, 2024 at Pine Grove Cemetery located in Corrigan Texas at 10:00 am.
