Michael was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents.
Michael is survived by his four daughters Erica Johnson (Joshua Johnson), Rebecca Issa, Laura Foster (Kyle Riley), and Meredith Medcalf (Travis Medcalf) and their mother Robin Foster; two sisters Pam Cox (Boyd Cox) and Kim Foster Bearden (Joe Bearden); five grandchildren Abigail, Emelyn, Sloan, William, and Raegan; beloved cat Butter; a nephew and nieces; the Garrett Excavating work family; and countless friends.
After graduating valedictorian from Lakeside High School, Michael earned a civil engineering degree from Louisiana Tech University with honors of Magna Cum Laude. He joined Garrett Excavating in the late 1980s, and his 30+ years of passion, dedication, and hard work helped build the company to its current success. Michael was well respected in the industry among customers and employees, trusting his knowledge and operational excellence.
Michael was an avid fan of all Arkansas Razorbacks sports teams, but his passion for Razorback football will forever be remembered. Known affectionately as “Uncle Mike” by family, friends, and tailgaters alike, his booming voice and personality made Saturdays outside Reynolds Razorback Stadium almost as entertaining as the action on the field.
The family asks that you celebrate Michael’s life through a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and that his spirit be remembered each time you call the Hogs. No formal service will be held.
His daughters would like to personally thank their mother for taking care of their father for 43 years. Her care for him was unparalleled to the very end.
