JoAnn James, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2024, at the age of 90. Born on October 30, 1933, in Hamburg, Arkansas, she was the daughter of Savage and Inez "Nezzie" Noble. JoAnn was preceded in death by the love of her life, Robert Ray James, with whom she shared 55 wonderful years of marriage.
JoAnn lived a life filled with grace, love, and unwavering faith. A devout Christian, she was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church, where she found strength and community throughout her life. Known for her elegant Southern charm, she touched the hearts of many with her beautiful singing voice and warm spirit. JoAnn had a passion for bridge, often gathering with friends for lively games filled with laughter. She loved hosting at her home, performing on the piano, playing tennis, and sewing, making all of her daughter Joni Lynn’s dresses during her childhood.
She is survived by her daughter, Joni Lynn Goff, her pride and joy, and her grandchildren: James Dustin Goff (Brittany), Chelsea Ann Hall (David), and Robert Grayson Goff (Logan Ann). Joann was also a proud great-grandmother to Scarlett James Hall (David and Chelsea) and Charlie and Theodore Michael "Teddy" Goff (Grayson and Logan Ann). Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Jean Harbison, and her nephews, James Harbison (Sara) and John Harbison.
A pillar of wisdom and support, JoAnn was always ready to lend an ear or offer advice. Her love and guidance will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A celebration of JoAnn's life will be held at the Gross Funeral Home, where friends and family can gather to honor her remarkable legacy on Wednesday, October 2nd. The visitation will be held at 10 AM with the funeral service immediately following at 10:30. There will also be a graveside service in Hamburg, AR that afternoon at 3 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the church, First Baptist of Hot Springs in JoAnn’s memory.
