Sid was born to Sidney and Lucille Lumpkin Sr. on July 19, 1934 in Corsicana, Texas.
He enlisted in the U. S. Army where he served in Okinawa, Japan and Vietnam, just to name a few. He traveled the entire world during his time in the service and was extremely proud of the fact that he was a soldier. Sid joined the Service from Corsicana, Texas in 1955 and retired from Fort Bragg, NC 1979.
He served as a Tactical Communications Sergeant throughout his career. He became a Senior Special Forces Communication NCO in 1960 and served with 1st SF (Special Forces), 5th SF, 6th SF, and 7th SF Groups until his final assignment to Germany. He returned to Fort Bragg and Retired in 1979 with 24 years active service.
His awards and decorations include Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal with 6 Oak Leaf Clusters, Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, and Expert Qualification Badge M16 Rifle.
He was a lifetime member of The Special Forces Association.
Sid was a loving husband, father, and friend, but he really treasured being “Grandpa” to his grandchildren. Sid's love for his family was beyond compare. He was married to the love of his life Kiyoko for 56 wonderful years. HIs children and grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he was a friend to all who knew him.
Sid is preceded in death by his parents,his son, Kenichi Lumpkin, and his brother Gary Lumpkin. He leaves behind his wife, Kiyoko Lumpkin; his children Michael Lumpkin, Dawn Boyles, and Naomi Holloway (Dean); grandchildren, Kenith Boyles, Benny Boyles, Sydney Allie Holloway, and Deana Holloway; his brother Jim Cooley (Diane); his sister-in-law Reiko Kinjo; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will accept friends for a visitation on Friday July 16, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Reeves Funeral Home in Hope Mills, North Carolina.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday July 17, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Reeves Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
