William “Bill” Kwan Yet Lum, 81, of Pearl City, Hawaii, died November 30, 2020, at Queens Medical Center. His sudden passing was due to many medical issues that succumbed his body, he hung in there till the very end.
Bill was born September 21, 1939, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Koon Kong Lum and Yit Ing “Eleanor” (Yim) Lum. He attended Iolani School and graduated in the Class of 1957. He gained his culinary skills while working and helping out at his parents Chinese Restaurant at a very young age. After he graduated from Iolani School, he attended the University of Hawaii.
He retired as a Postal Carrier for 40 years where he delivered to his many patrons in the Pearl City Palisades neighborhood. He enjoyed the many trips to see the world traveling with his wife and friends and all the times tailgating and attending UH Football games. His cooking skills came in handy as his love to cook for his family every day was a big help and enjoyed seeing his grandkids grow. His yearly trips to Las Vegas and weekend poker games with the family were what he enjoyed most.
Bill is survived by his wife, Thelma T. (Yamada) Lum, sisters Edith Wong and Loretta Tamura (Glenn), brothers Clement Lum (Zeny), Melvin Lum (Amy), 4 daughters, Cheryl Uyehara (Charles), Valerie Araki (Blake), Claire Lum and Wendy Goo (Darrin), 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
