I'm sorry for the loss off you mother and father. She was the niece of my mother Janke Beerstra from Kollum (the Netherlands)
When I was a child they came to the Netherlands. I remember Lena was about my age.

Janke was an intelligent and warm person.  I remember her fondly in our social work classes as someone who had powerful ideas and was destined to be a leader.  I am sure she leaves a loving legacy both in the field of social work and more importantly with her family.

JANKE WAS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT PEOPLE IN MY LIFE. SHE GUILDED ME AS A SOCIAL WORKER SUPERVISOR WITH MY WORK AT CPS FOR MANY YEARS. SHE WAS INSPIRATIONAL, WISE, CARING,KIND, COMMITTED AND A TRUE ROLE MODEL. SHE AND PETE LATER MARRIED MY WIFE, SUE AND I AND LATER THEY BECAME OUR DEAR FRIENDS. SHE LATER BAPTIZED OUR ADOPTED DAUGHTER, EMMA. JANKE WAS ONE OF GOD'S MOST BLESSED ANGELS AND SHE AND PETE HAVE GONE HOME TO HEAVEN'S REWARD.  I KNOW ONE DAY WE WILL MEET AGAIN. I WAS VERY BLESSED TO KNOW HER AND PETE AS THE KINDNESS THEY SHARED WITH ME I TRIED TO SHARE WITH OTHERS IN MY 20 YEARS WITH OAHU CPS /DHS AND THE ALOHA THAT WILL ALWAYS GUIDE ME. THANK YOU VERY MUCH MY DEAREST FRIEND, KEN, SUE, & EMMA LANGLOTZ, CLOVERDALE, CA.

Janke's life examples of how to fit in well in a new and different place; how to make a home and raise a family; how to be an effective social worker; and how to persevere in love, kindness and commitment  were important to me.  She was my best model for many of the things I have done in my life.  Her creativity and the joy she found in little things around her made her fun and interesting to be with.  Most of all, though, she lived her love for others and  acted on her beliefs.  Her visits to me when times were difficult meant so much.  

I remember her trying to get Mikey to sit down at Kalihi church--he was such a rascal--and despite her frustration, she would have a grin on her face because she loved her kids (and  grand kids) so much.  She stood up for what she believed at work and in her personal life and was someone you could count on. I loved her smile and chuckle and am glad that she was a part of my life.
