Helen graduated from Kaimuki High School and became a Licensed Practical Nurse working at the Kapiolani Women’s and Children’s Hospital for many years. When not working, Helen was an active volunteer at local religious and community programs. She was a long time member at St. Patrick’s Catholic parish serving in the church choir, and also assisting with administrative tasks for the parish office. She also volunteered at the Hawaii Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, and the Hui O Na Pio Hawaiian cultural group at St. Louis High School, Honolulu. Helen was also an ardent community advocate for the local cognitively disabled special needs community. In 2015, she moved to Ellicott City, MD to live with family.
Helen was an exceptional cook and enjoyed singing and ballroom dancing. She was well loved and will truly be missed by her family and friends. She is survived by sons Kevin, Bryant, Aaron, and Randy. Granddaughters Kristen Haunani Johnson, Erika Pualani Hill, Rebecca Kanani Young (deceased) and Mathew Tyler Young; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Service for Helen Young will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at Borthwick Mortuary, 1330 Maunakea St, Honolulu, HI.Visitation from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, services from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm with a reception to follow until 3 pm.
A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at 12:30 pm, at Diamond Head Memorial Park Cemetery, 529 18th Avenue, Honolulu, HI 96816.
