Edward E.K. Hopkins Jr.

He was born May 30, 1949, in Honolulu, Oahu to Edward E.K. Hopkins, Sr. and Geraldine Iwalani (Hoe) Hopkins.

Ed was a proud Castle High School graduate, Class of 1967. He also earned his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO.

In 1970, Ed joined the United States Air Force. During his 26 years active duty, he served in the Philippines, Japan, Texas, Korea, Colorado, Greece, and Germany. He enjoyed discovering new cultures, countries, and foods. But even though the US Air Force gave him the opportunity to travel worldwide, he always wanted to return home to Hawaii. In 2000, Ed was offered a job as a federal contractor, and he never looked back.

In his free time, he loved to travel, go on cruises (Europe, South America, New Zealand), stay active by playing volleyball and participating in the Great Aloha Run, the Race for the Cure, Waikiki Charity Walk, watching University of Hawaii women’s volleyball, learning the Hawaiian language, listening to Hawaiian music, watching the Merrie Monarch in Hilo, and researching his Hopkins and Hoe family tree.

His love for life, his family, his friends and being Hawaiian was never-ending. He was always there when anyone needed help. He was a great friend, a loving husband, a caring father, a funny uncle, and wonderful grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 22 years Marlene Hopkins, his daughters Marie (David) Holloway, Keala (Eric) Amorin, grandchildren Ava Nanea and Evan Kauhane Amorin, sister Geraldine (Melvin) Lee, brother Gary (Betty) Hopkins, niece Kathy (Rob) Smith and family, and Jim (Elaine) Lee and family.

Please join family and friends as we celebrate the life of Ed held on May 30, 2023, at Borthwick Mortuary, 1330 Maunakea Street, Honolulu, HI in the Maunakea Chapel.

Visitation at 10:30 am, service to follow at 11:30 am and fellowship at 1:00 pm.

The family is asking for no gifts or flowers. Just your presence.
