Lena Bernice "Lee" Mascaro

Lena B. (Lee) Mascaro, 97 of Homosassa, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on August 6, 2022, with her family at her bedside. Born in Detroit, Michigan on August 21, 1924 to Wilbert and Angeline (Trudell) Mitchell, one of 4 children. Lee moved here 36 years ago from Taylor, Michigan with her beloved husband Leonard J. Mascaro Sr who preceded her in death.

Lee, as she was known throughout her life, was a retired Taylor, Michigan school teacher, graduating from Eastern Michigan University with both Bachelor and Master degrees. She was a trend setter, deciding to go college in her mid-forties after raising her children and years of volunteering in the Taylor School district. Before marriage, Lee worked at Wolverine Tube in Detroit, Michigan and her assignment involved the top-secret Manhattan Project which developed the first nuclear bomb during WWII.

Lee was an avid reader and adored her grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time with her late husband Len, and with their friends, golfing, dining and traveling. She especially enjoyed the cruises they went on with friends, as well as their trips together to China, Scotland, England and Hawaii.

Lee is survived by her children Leonard J. Mascaro Jr (wife Kathryn), Fishers, IN; William W. Mascaro (Ilene), Lake Wales, FL; Michael F. Mascaro (wife Melanie), Homosassa, FL; and Judithlee Zintel (husband Patrick), Homosassa, FL, grandchildren William Jr, Tonya, Jeffrey, Michelle, Stephanie, Jennifer, James and Mitchell, great grandchildren, Kierstin, Makenna, Owen, Ethan, Ella, Charlotte, Xander, Cydney, and Elora.

In addition to her parents, Lee was preceded in death by her sisters, Jennie York, Georgina Mitchell and Rosalie Mitchell.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Lena will be celebrated on Friday, August 19, 2022 at 9:30 AM at St Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 7040 S. Suncoast Blvd, Homosassa, FL 34446, with Fr. J. Glenn Diaz, Celebrant. Following the mass, family and friends will be received at 11:00 AM for the Catholic Rite of Committal at Wilder Funeral Home, 4890 S. Suncoast Blvd, Homosassa, FL 34446, where a Catered Reception will take place. Private Interment will occur on Mon., Aug. 22, 2022 at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.
