Cpl Johnathan Wesley “Butters” Taylor, USMC died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011 in Afghanistan, while serving our Country on his fourth combat tour. Cpl Taylor was born August 14, 1987 in Hickory, NC and moved to this area in 2000. Cpl Taylor was known as Butters by his family and friends. He was a graduate of Lecanto High School were he was a member of the ROTC, Yankeetown Sea Cadets and a former Cub Scout. He was of the Lutheran Faith.
Cpl Taylor is survived by his parents Mark and Deborah Taylor of Homosassa; brothers Mark Taylor Jr. and Christopher Taylor both of Homosassa; paternal grandparents Ruby and Robert Wyly of Hickory, NC, Buddy Knotts of Ohio and Judy Nickels of Ohio; maternal grandparents John and Andra Green of Henry, VA; aunts and uncles, Jeannie and Arnie Burch of Martinsville, VA, Melanie and Larry Garver of Frederick, MD; cousin 2d Lt Heather Garver, USAF, NM; nephews Mark Taylor III, and Mason Taylor; niece Morgan Taylor.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, March 5, 2011 on the football field at Lecanto High School. Burial with full Military Honors will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
The family request care packages be sent to Cpl Taylor’s unit in Afghanistan. 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine, Echo Co., 3rd Platoon, Unit 73230FPOAE, 09510-3230, in care of Staff Sgt. Diroma.
