John L. “Lenny” Polito, SSGT, USAF (ret), 92, of Homosassa, FL, passed away on Wed., April 26, 2017 at Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center, Crystal River, FL. A native of Omaha, Nebraska, he was born October 14, 1924 to Ben L. and Evelyn D. (Ballard) Polito. Lenny, as he was known to everyone, served his country honorably and proudly for over 20 years in both the United States Army and the United States Air Force. He was a recipient of both the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart during his service. He moved to Homosassa in 1995 from Wayne, New Jersey. Upon completion of his long military service career, he was employed as a warehouse employee for Cutler Industries in New Jersey and had also served part time for the U.S. Postal Service. Never a man to sit idle, Lenny could still be seen until a short time ago helping everyone he came in contact with whatever he could do for them. He was a member of American Legion Post #166 of Homosassa; was of the Roman Catholic faith, and enjoyed visiting the area’s internet cafés for recreation. Lenny is survived by his loving companion of 22 years, Julia Andrews of Homosassa; daughter Susan Polito of New Jersey; sister Betty Jean Sekeet of West Palm Beach, FL; Julia’s four children Nancy and Richard Andrews, both of Homosassa; Joseph Andrews of Iselin, NJ and George Andrews and his wife Natasha of Riverside, FL; Joseph’s children Josette and Michael and Joseph’s grandchildren Matthew, Jillian and Colin, as well as George’s children Tanya and Irene. Friends will be received on Sat., April 29, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Wilder Funeral Home, Homosassa, where a chapel service will take place on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at 12:30 with Fr. Gregory Andrews officiating. Interment with military honors will take place on Mon., May 1, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. www.wilderfuneral.com
