Dorothy “Dot” Burns went HOME to be with her Lord and Savior early Friday morning March 25th, 2022 in Inverness, FL. where she died from natural causes at the age of 93. She was born to William and Erma Morgan in Orlando, FL on November 7, 1928.
She was married to Joseph Eugene “Gene” Burns for 48 years and he preceded her in death July 7, 1995. Preceded in death by all her siblings and life-long friend Bettye Ellis of Chattanooga, TN. Four surviving sons are: Paul “Steve” and his wife Dona Burns of Sugar Grove, NC., Randall “Randy” and his wife Patricia Burns of Bushnell, FL., Richard “Rick” Burns of Homosassa, FL., and Christopher “Chris” and his wife Peggy Burns of Salcha, AK. She was affectionately known as “GRAM” to her 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren!
Her faith and service to Christ was very evident and prominent in her life. Every community and town she resided in from Florida to Tennessee, she attended a local church and served faithfully where she either directed the choir, taught and / or attended Sunday School classes, assisted with Vacation Bible School, or used her beautiful alto voice to sing a special during services.
She was an avid sports enthusiast of any sport where it involved a ball! The teams she rooted the most passionately for were: UF Gators, UT Lady Vols, and the Atlanta Braves. All family knew not to call her during any of those games, unless to comment on a great play but only during a commercial! During her young adult years, she played fast pitch softball where she was “all state” catcher. While living in Eustis, she provided official score keeping for many Little League baseball games. She was always at the ready to play any type of game from ping pong, to cards to Yahtzee to dominoes, and even recently you would often find her playing Solitaire upon visits.
Work and not just play was also evident in her life where she faithfully worked many years as the produce department manager in her family business, Burns IGA in Bushnell and Lake Panasoffkee, FL.
Services will be held at Cross Connection Church of Bushnell, FL on Saturday April 2, at 3:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Cross Connection in her memory.
