Bill was born in Opelika, Alabama, the son of The Reverend Thomas Leslie Hill and Frances Robertson Hill. He graduated from Wilcox County High School, in Camden, Alabama, where he was a member of R.O.T C. He was called to active duty in the Army and served two years during the Korean War.
Bill entered Auburn University and earned a degree in electrical engineering as well as a degree in mechanical engineering. He began his career at Alabama Power. In 1959 he was asked to move to Michigan to assist in the construction and testing of the Enrico Fermi Nuclear Plant. Four years later he returned to Alabama to the newly formed nuclear energy group at Southern Company Services and worked in that group until his retirement in 1993. Bill was proud to be a part of the nuclear age in the United States and he maintained his professional engineer status until the present.
Bill was a true southern gentleman, who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Bernice, stepson Tim Morris, and several cousins.
Bill was a 50 year member of the IEEE and a member of the National Nuclear Society. He served as Southeastern Chairman for Communications for the Civil Air Patrol and was a member from 1957-2012. He was a proud graduate of Auburn University, a member Auburn Golden Eagles, The Club, and Canterbury United Methodist Church. Bill and Bernice loved to travel and attend SCS/SNC Retiree activities.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Ridout's Valley Chapel on Oxmoor Road in Homewood, Alabama with a reception immediately following at the funeral home.
