Shirley Ann Stewart Bridges was born on February 5, 1934 to George Henry Stewart and Carrie Lee Lovvorn Stewart in Wilsonville, Alabama. She grew up in Wilsonville and then attended Auburn University where she received a degree in Home Economics and Education. She enjoyed working for the Alabama Power Company and later teaching high school.
She met her husband, Jack Bridges while teaching high school and enjoyed a long beautiful marriage and friendship with him for fifty years. Jack and Shirley were active members of Vestavia Methodist Church where they were original members of the Couples Class. Shirley loved playing tennis, playing bridge and in her later years became an accomplished artist and painter. She was a member of her garden club, a member of the Crescent Club as well as a founding member of the Camelot Club.
Shirley’s greatest joy was raising her two children, Linda and Rodney and spending time with her four loving grandchildren. She is proceeded in death by her husband, Jack Bridges, her son Kenneth Bryon Bridges and her sister Carolyn Motes. Shirley is survived by her daughter Linda Dixon, her husband Doug and their three children, Delaney, Paul and Troy Dixon of Dallas, Texas. She is also survived by her son Rodney Bridges, his wife Eri and their daughter Jackie.
A visitation for Shirley will be held Friday, January 30th from 10-11am at the chapel of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church followed by a funeral service at 11am. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
