Rhonda Gail Ott Katz, born in Birmingham, Alabama, entered eternal rest on May 30, 2024. She was the beloved daughter of Dr. Willard Rodney Ott and Barbara Jean Whitfield Ott. She was a graduate of Samford University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
From an early age, Rhonda's compassionate spirit shone brightly. Driven by her innate desire to care for others, she dedicated her professional life to the well-being of her patients as a Nurse Practitioner in the Bone Marrow Transplant unit at UAB. Her empathy and expertise touched countless lives and is a testament to her commitment to nurturing and healing others.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Rhonda was a devoted daughter, mother, and grandmother and passionate about animals and The Rolling Stones. Her heart overflowed with love for her family who were the center of her world. Because of this, there were no boundaries to the extent of what she would do for her family, which was shown time and time again by her dropping everything to take a phone call or a drive in order to support anyone at any time. Her unconditional love for her children and grandchildren will forever be embedded in their hearts due to her going above and beyond to ensure they always felt loved.
Rhonda is preceded in death by her father, Dr. Willard Rodney Ott. She is survived by her mother, Barbara Ott, of Mountain Brook, AL; her brothers Rodney Ott Jr., of Birmingham, AL, and Dr. Ronald Ott (Diahn) of Knoxville, TN; her children Rebecca McGann (Michael) of Chattanooga, TN, and MSgt Matthew Katz (McKinley) of Misawa, Japan; and her grandchildren Giulietta Murphy, Addison Katz, Lillian Katz, Natalie McGann, and Stowe McGann. She also leaves behind her beloved Collie, Freya.
Rhonda Gail Ott has left a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire all who were blessed to have known her. While she may have departed from this world, her spirit will forever remain a guiding light for those who were touched by her presence.
A celebration of Rhonda's life will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Ridout's Valley Chapel, 1800 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL 35209. Graveside services will be at Forest Hill Cemetery on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at 10:00 am.
