Mary Margaret Tomlin, age 87, passed away on November 25, 2022, in Birmingham, Alabama, surrounded by family. Mary Margaret was born August 9, 1935, in Ashland City, Tennessee, to Fauley Stephen Harper and Dorothy Leota Tucker Harper. She attended Ashland City High School and Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, Tennessee, where she met her husband to be, Albert Wray Tomlin, Sr.
She is survived by her son Albert Wray Tomlin, Jr. (Carol) of Birmingham, daughter Michelle Tomlin Pendley (Tony) of Birmingham, son Stephen Lee Tomlin (Leigh Ann) of Clearwater, Florida, son Christopher Wray Tomlin (Perrie) of Birmingham, 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and her beloved dog, Jack. Mary Margaret was predeceased by her parents and her loving husband of 58 years.
Prior to moving to Birmingham in 1978, Mary Margaret supported Wray while he pastored United Methodist churches in Tennessee, through raising their children and her various volunteer efforts. Upon relocating to Alabama, both Wray and Mary Margaret dedicated their lives to the service of “God’s Older Children”. She served as administrator and marketing director of the Altamont Retirement Community and Fair Haven during her professional career.
Funeral services will be graveside on Monday, December 5, 2022, at 11 a.m., at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham. Mary Margaret’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will include members of the Fair Haven Auxiliary.
