Betty Lawler passed away on October 30, 2017 at the age of 87. She was born April 16, 1930 to Alfred A. and Elizabeth Tharpe. Betty was a faithful member of Shades Valley Lutheran Church for 50 years. After graduating from West End High School in 1948 she attended Auburn university, where she was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority and later she graduated from Howard College. She taught Home Economics at Berry High School from 1967 until she retired in 1985.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Everett, of 64 years and her daughter Carol Layne Lawler and her great granddaughter, Kaylen Caudle. She is survived by her son, Neil (Regina), granddaughter, Kristen Caudle (Matt), grandson Neil Lawler Jr., great grandchildren Elizabeth, Jack and Brooks Caudle and her brother Al “Buster” Tharpe.
She will be greatly missed by her family, church family, former students, fellow teachers and friends at Brookdale. Betty touched many lives with her wonderful smile and humor.
The family thanks everyone for their concern and support over the last month, especially the staff at FairHaven and the caregivers from St. Vincent’s Hospice.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Shades Valley Lutheran Church, 720 Shades Creek Parkway, at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. The Committal will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to The “Happy Quilters” c% Shades Valley Lutheran Church.
