The family of Kay Jones Beard is heartbroken to announce her passing on December 13, 2024 at the age of 82. She is survived by her children, Shae (Billy) Reed and Brad (Jill) Beard, and brother, David Murphree Jones (Janet). Kay is preceded in death by her husband, William Gerald (Jerry) Beard; parents, William Henderson and Roberta Francis Jones; daughter, Ashley Beard Ellsworth; and sister, Patricia Jones Adams.
Kay was born in Tuscaloosa, AL on July 17, 1942. Growing up in Tuscaloosa, Kay enjoyed watching Alabama football and going to Homecoming parades. Like her parents and siblings, Kay graduated from the University of Alabama. Her degree was in business education.
One of Kay’s favorite pastimes was shopping with her mother. Kay’s love of shopping continued throughout her life. She didn’t have to buy anything; she was content just looking. She and Jerry often spent weekends going to estate sales “just to look”.
Family was Kay’s greatest source of joy. On August 10, 1968, she married the love of her life, Jerry. Together they raised three children. Kay was the definition of a mother - always there for her kids and would do anything for them. She took a genuine interest in everything they did and made sure they were taken care of. Kay could be spotted in the crowd watching her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. She also enjoyed hosting family gatherings. She delighted in being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother and loved her family dearly.
Kay had a wonderful group of dear friends; many of those friendships spanned 50+ years. One of her favorite monthly events was getting together with her Bunko group. They actually did play Bunko for several years, but later began going out for dinner instead.
Kay loved the Lord and grew up in the Episcopal church. Later in life, she and Jerry became members of Hunter Street Baptist Church.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood. Visitation will begin at 12:00, followed by a memorial service at 1:00. A graveside service will be held at Tuscaloosa Memorial Gardens at 3:00 where she and Jerry will be interned together.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
