Juliana Lee Mills, age 76, of Homewood, AL passed away peacefully on July 9, 2020 with her family at her side. She was born Aug 30, 1943 in Meridian, MS to Luman Liston Lee, Jr and Frances Jennings Lee who preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband Ernest F. Mills, Jr and her sons Oliver Lee Mills and Kirk Christopher Mills (Suzanne) and her three grandsons Luke Powell Mills, Paul Jennings Mills and Samuel Baker Mills, all of Homewood, and her sister Betty Lee Norman (Robert) of Auburn, AL.
Juliana grew up in Evergreen, AL where she was active in Evergreen United Methodist Church, including singing in the choir and participating in youth group activities. She graduated from Evergreen High School in 1961 as the class Valedictorian. She attended Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL, graduating in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. As a senior, she was a member of the honor societies Sigma Sigma Sigma and Beta Beta Beta. She graduated from Medical Technology School at St Margaret’s-Montgomery Hospital in 1966 before moving to Birmingham, AL where she worked in the Hematology Department at University Hospital. In 1971 she married Ernie and settled in Homewood, beginning her career as a wife and mother, where she focused on her family and raising her two sons into young men. She also spent 20 years as an independent Mary Kay consultant, which included holding birthday “Mary Kay Makeover Parties” for young girls in Homewood. She also delivered meals to the needy and the elderly in Homewood, often with the assistance of her husband. A devoted follower of Jesus Christ, she was a long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Homewood where she sang in several choirs, was active in the United Methodist Women and was a member of the Joy Class where she established many close friendships that lasted throughout her life. She loved her family and friends and they loved her.
The family will hold a private burial service on Thursday July 16th at the National Cemetery in Montevallo. There will be a Memorial Service at a later date.
