John B. Ballard

John received his D.M.D., PhD from the UAB School of Dentistry in 1969. He practiced Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery at the Veterans Medical Center in Birmingham, UAB Kirklin Clinic and was Associate Professor of Oral Surgery at UAB School of Dentistry. John served in the United State Army at Herzo Base Germany and with the Alabama National Guard in the 109th Evac Hospital. His hobbies included deer hunting, gardening and raising Longhorn cattle.

John was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 2 sisters, his son John B. Ballard, Jr., and his daughter Karen E. Ballard. He is survived by his loving wife Ellen Ballard, his 2 daughters Lisa Eich and Carol Spink, his brother James Ballard, his sister Jane Ballard, and his 4 grandchildren Katie Marie Woods, Ryan Spink, Alexandrea Spink, Ann Marie Eich.

A visitation for John will be held Saturday, July 30, 2022 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Wyatt Funeral Home, 1018 Florala Highway, Opp, AL 36467. Following the visitation there will be a graveside service beginning at 2:00 PM at Sweetwater Baptist Church Cemetery, 28171 Co. Rd. 30, Opp, AL 36467. There will also be a memorial service beginning at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 with visitation starting at 10 am at The Lutheran Church of Vestavia Hills located at 201 Montgomery Hwy., Vestavia Hills, AL 35216.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorial be made in John's memory to at The Lutheran Church of Vestavia Hills, Sweetwater Baptist Church or UAB School of Dentistry.
