James Stanford Faulkner, Sr. aged 93 of Birmingham, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ November 11, 2020. Jim was born November 6, 1927 in Calhoun, GA. He grew up in Pineapple and Montgomery, AL, attended Sydney Lanier HS, then a year at Auburn University before joining the Navy 1945. He graduated Vanderbilt University then entered University of Tennessee Medical School. Jim and his family came to Birmingham in 1957 for general surgery residency at Hillman Clinic until he found his calling in orthopedics. Jim practiced orthopedic surgery at East End Memorial Hospital and then at Medical Center East until 1993. He always loved football and served as team-doctor for several local high school teams. He established Faulkner Farms 1972 and enjoyed many years in Saint Clair County raising Simmental cattle. He was the president of the Alabama state Cattleman’s Association for several years. Jim was an elder and Sunday school teacher at Grace Bible Church in Rainbow City, Alabama near the farm. He is a member of Briarwood PCA and its Abundant Life Sunday school class. In recent years he and Diana enjoyed wonderful travels with the Trailblazers. Family members all agree that Jim loved God, his family and always Auburn football! After retirement, Jim became involved helping the community as a board member of Better Basics of Birmingham literacy/enrichment program then was a board member of Sports World Ministries. He was blessed to travel an around-the-globe mission trip with Paul Eshelman and the Jesus Film Project. He also participated in many mission trips to Honduras and El Salvador with Leo Humphrey of Good News in Action. Jim is preceded in death by his father Floyd Faulkner, his mother Elizabeth Stanford Moore, and his wife Rose Gunter Faulkner. He is survived by his wife Diana Khalaf Faulkner, sister Betty Faulkner Harvell (Doug), daughter Peggie Hodges (Chap), son Stan Faulkner, grandchildren: Spain (Brandi) and Justin Hodges, Jennifer and Jimmy (Cory) Faulkner, great grandchildren: Jake, Spain, Owens, and Frances Hodges and Jamey (Jim’s IV namesake) and Ruby Faulkner, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Due to COVID-19 the memorial service will be just close family. In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to Briarwood PCA or favorite charities.
