ANSLEY, SR., FLOYD GRESHAM Mr. Floyd Gresham Ansley, Sr., Age 86 of Birmingham, Alabama Mr. Ansley was born in Birmingham but spent much of his youth in West Virginia. He served in the 87th Chemical Mortar Battalion in Europe during WW II where he suffered severe wounds and was awarded the Purple Heart. After the war, he graduated from Birmingham Southern and the University Of Alabama School Of Law. Mr. Ansley worked as an attorney in the U.S. Department of Labor in Birmingham, Boston, Washington D.C., and Atlanta. The son of a coal miner, he spent much of his career focused on labor issues associated with this industry with a particular emphasis on supporting victims of Black Lung disease. By the time he retired, Mr. Ansley had achieved the highest position possible for a civil servant not politically appointed. He is survived by his Children: Daughter Elise (Ansley) Donovan and sons Floyd, Thomas and Alonzo Ansley; Grandchildren: Kate (Donovan) McCleary, Thomas Jack Donovan, and Jessica, Thomas, Kathleen, Olivia, Rivers, and John Ansley; Great-Grandchildren: Camilla McCleary; Step Children: Pam (Vinson) Wilson; Step Grandchildren: Christopher and Dana Wilson He is preceded in death by his Parents: Floyd M. Ansley and Jessie Lee (Gresham) Ansley; Wives: Norma (Rivers) Ansley and Betty (Vinson) Ansley; Son-in-Law: Randy Wilson. Visitation for Mr. Ansley will be from 10 am to noon on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Ridout's Valley Chapel, 1800 Oxmoor Valley Road, Homewood, Alabama. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery. >
