Betty is survived by her daughter, Sandra Ann Price (Oscar); five grandchildren – Oscar M. Price IV (Emily), Timothy Hunter Price (Stacy), John Bradford Price (Louise), Elizabeth Price Nelson (Jon), and Sara Rene’ Price; as well as twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hunter Jowers Price, Jr., and her son, Hunter Jowers Price III (Rene’).
Betty was born on August 11, 1929 in Birmingham. She attended The University of Alabama, where she cultivated a love of literature that endured for her life. On November 21, 1953, she married her husband, the late Hunter Jowers Price, Jr. Together they established a roofing company, All-South Subcontractors, and she remained a vital part of the company’s operations until her death.
She was a member of the Vestavia Country Club, where she enjoyed playing golf for many years, particularly with the Duffers and Stuffers golf and supper club and on the state women’s amateur golf circuit. Betty delighted in travel with her family and friends and kept journals of each of her trips. Each entry reflects her wonder and gratitude at her opportunity to see the world.
Betty’s life was always interesting and full, but her happiness was most evident among her family. She referred to her children and grandchildren as her “jewels,” and the time she spent with them proved her sentiment. Among many happy times, her family especially loved trips to Hilton Head, S.C. and Friday night dinners at her home. A lifelong competitor, Betty also cultivated her enthusiasm for sports and card play among her grandchildren. Her wit, conversation, and love enriched all who knew her.
The family expresses their gratitude to Affinity Hospice Care, HomeRN Care, and Rose Whyte for their faithful service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Big Oak Ranch, 250 Jake Mintz Road, Gadsden, AL 35905. Ridout’s Valley Chapel directing.
