He was born July 29, 1925 in Tiffin, Ohio, a son of the late Nelson and Olivia Gassner Miller.
Mr. Miller was honorably discharged from the US Army, following his service in both World War II, from 1946-1947 and from the Korean War, serving from 1951-1953.
His first job at age 17 was a mechanic at Cortland Ford and had also worked as a sheet metal worker and at Brockway’s. He retired in 1990 from the Cortland City School District, where he was a custodian for several years.
Uncle Pete as he was known by many is survived by a brother, Paul Miller of Cortland; nieces, Terry Miller (Brian Miles) of Cortland; Patty (Dan) Lyon of Homer; Cindy (Scott) Courtney of Fonda, NY; Bonnie (Jim) St. Peter of Scott; nephews, Boyd (Elsie) Demond of Florida; Russ Demond of Groton and Marty Miller of Cortland; as well several great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, John Miller; two sisters, Anne Demond and Pauline Deuil and two nephews, Claire Demond and Johnny Deuil.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 N. Main St., Homer, with Rev. Lucian Urbaniak officiating.
Memorial contributions in Mr. Miller’s name may be directed to St. Mary’s Catholic School, 61 North Main St., Cortland, NY 13045.
