Michael was born on March 20, 1949 in Jefferson City, MO the son of Leman and Virginia (Priest) Helton who preceded him in death. On August 26, 1978, he was united in marriage to Sandra Nikodym in Holts Summit, MO. Mike was a talented draftsman, working for many firms in Los Angeles, CA. He also worked as a pipe superintendent for Daniels, at the Callaway County Nuclear Plant and was an entrepreneur, designing and building aquarium filtration systems. He owned and operated Fish N Stuff Pet Store in Jefferson City for many years. He retired from Missouri Department of Conservation in Jefferson City, MO. In his spare time, he rebuilt hot rods, was a master mechanic and craftsman, and enjoyed music, collecting record albums and memorabilia. He had a passion for nature, animals and spending time with his family.
Survivors include: his wife of 44 years, Sandi Helton of the home; three children, Lisa Veltrop (Terry) of Holts Summit, Michael Helton (Jordan) of Hartsburg, MO and Eric Helton (Stephanie) of Columbia, MO; two sisters, Linda Sigler (John) of Holts Summit, MO and Susie Nikodym (David) of Steelville, MO; two grandchildren, Candace Goff (Chris) and Brandi Veltrop; three great-grandchildren, Theryn Scott, Cooper Goff and Alexis Goff; brother-in-law, Brian Nikodym; sister-in-law, Vicki Swyers; nieces and nephews, Toni Butler (Curt), Tim Welge (Racquel), Nanci Nikodym (Eric), Dawn Perkins (Scott), Jason Nikodym (Katie), Joshua Nikodym (Jaclyn), Ellen Nikodym (Max), Julianna Nikodym (Ben), Kate Nikodym; great nieces and nephews, Brandon Bowen (Teri), Chelsea Adams, Hannah Nikodym, Makenna Dunlap, Naomi, Marli, Emeri and Adalei Perkins. Ella, Jackson, and Emilie Nikodym. Jamos and Juna Nikodym and great-great nieces and nephews, Bella Bowen, Nate Faneuf.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 17, 2022 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at Debo Funeral Home, 10920 Old Hwy 54 North, Holts Summit, MO. Memorial service will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Rev. Michael Dunn officiating.
