Melvin was born on March 3, 1945 in Fulton, MO the son of Ernest Lee Underwood Sr and Willena Marie (Alexander) Underwood who preceded him in death. He was a long-time farmer in Callaway County. He was employed for 10 years at Harbison-Walker International in Fulton, MO. After the brick plant closed down, he was employed at William Woods College taking care of the horses and stables. Melvin was an avid outdoorsman, and loved hunting, fishing and taking care of the farm and his animals.
Survivors include three sons, Mike Underwood (Lisa) of Sedalia, MO, Stephen Underwood of Holts Summit, MO and David Underwood (Jill) of Holts Summit, MO; three daughters, Toni Trimble (Rick) of Ozark, MO, Zella Barnes of Fulton, MO and Barb Raps of Holts Summit, MO; one step-daughter, Sandy Welch (Luther) of Holts Summit, MO; one brother, Ernest Underwood Jr (Lanetta) of Fulton, MO; one sister, Joyce Hicks (David) of California, MO; 19 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; 11 step-great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Jessie Bowen and Ethel Moore; one brother, Charlie Underwood; one grandson, Cory Barnes and two great great grandchildren.
Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
