He could have practiced in more prominent hospitals, but remained dedicated to providing excellent medical services in his own community.
As a friend, None of the titles and status Dr. Julien achieved in life kept him from having lifelong friendships with Nurses, X-ray Technicians, Secretaries, Janitors, and other Doctors. His friends described him as a loyal friend who honored them without conditions.
The Legacy of Dr. Rene Louis Julien as a grandfather will live forever. His grandchildren felt comforted by the spirit of a man who taught them so many life lessons that only a grandfather can teach. He showered his grandchildren with his own unique brand of oddball humor, wittiness, and unapologetic silliness; yet never hesitated to sneak in a lesson about the growing pains of life. He taught his grandchildren what humanity is and how to care for it. Their childhood memories are filled with joy and spirit, from birthdays, to thanksgiving, to christmas, he made those occasions special; these are memories that his grandchildren will cherish forever. The greatest lessons he taught his grandchildren were lessons in humility, lessons about humanity, lessons in public service for and by the people, lessons in service for the unfortunate, and finally lessons on how to embolden their own sense of morality. His grandchildren and his great-grandchildren welcome the spirit of a man that lives forever within them and always with them.
As a father, Dr. Julien had a complicated yet loving relationship with his children. He respected everyone's own sense of ethics, direction, and career path; as well as being a respected and prominent figure in their lives.
Affectionately called “Noye” by his siblings, he was the trusted doctor of the family. He remained faithful with the health of each member of the family that came to him with a medical question, consultation, and treatment. He was a staunch advocate for every member of the family that entrust him to call their personal doctor or hospitalist to advocate on their behalf. Regarded in high esteem, respect and reverence by his brothers and sisters and extended family. He Never missed “The Julien Family Reunion” held every 2 to 3 years. His presence will surely be missed.
Phrases to remember:
Dr. Julien embraced knowledge-based endeavors and incorporated that in his daily life and is known to reiterate these phrases in his lifetime: He would tell me “Knowledge is Power”, is the philosophy he lived by and one I emulate. I remain in awe of his witt, sharpness and vast knowledge even in the last years, months, and days of his life.
“ QUE VOUS LE FASSE”, dad explained that he worked in his youth as a secretary for a business woman who did not know how to read nor write, and the lady would exclaimed “Que Vous Le Fasse” when encountered with complicated matters to show that she knows french. Simply means “what else can you do? or “ Nothing else left to do” Dad used this phrase often to remind himself of his roots and modest up-bringing.
“Map Folle Oui” is a common way dad expressed that he is enjoying the conversation or situation.
Dr. Julien strived for perfection everyday in medical practice and life and usually says “why mess with perfection” in response to changes in his medical management.
“Peace on him!” while making the sign of the cross made with his hand to express that he is done/had enough, or to Bless you.
“Soleil de mon coeur, venez me réchauffe mon coeur” If he could not go back to his beloved Haiti to enjoy this eternal source of power and warmth, Florida’s sunshine became the perfect substitution.
