James P. Murphy, age 79, of Holland died Sunday, December 25, 2011 at Ridgewood Manor in Maumee. He was born March 17, 1932 in Toledo, Ohio to John S. and Anna G. (Kucharski) Murphy and on September 3, 1976, he married Alice A. Terrell. A Veteran of the United States Army, Jim was employed by United Parcel Service as a Driver for 38 years. His love of the sport of Archery lead Jim to Open Murphy’s Archery Shop in 1978 and become a J.O.A.D. Instructor at Adams Conservation and at Mudjaw Bowman where he was also a lifetime member of both. Jim also went on to serve as a Boy Scout Archery Merit Badge Counselor.
He is survived by his wife, Alice A. Murphy; children, Patrick M. (Arlene) Murphy and Shawn M. (Patrick Tarpy) Murphy; grandchildren, Tracy and Todd Whittaker, April (Tony) Khoury, Caitlyn and Nicholas Tarpy as well as many great grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna as well as his brothers, Charles and Joseph Murphy.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 2-8 P.M. in Neville Funeral Home, Southwest Chapel, 7438 Airport Highway in Holland (419-865-8879) where funeral services will be held on Friday, December 30, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Toledo Memorial Park. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider either Odyssey Hospice or Holland Free Methodist Church. Jim’s family would like to thank all the staff at Ridgewood Manor and Odyssey Hospice for all their loving and compassionate care.
