John was born on April 6, 1927 to Peter and Emma Groenewoud. He lived his whole life in the Holland area. He married the love of his life in 1951. Together they raised 4 daughters. In 2017, Betty passed away but was forever in his heart. He was known as the candy man by anyone that met him. His pockets were always full of lifesavers!! John had stories from his days in the Navy that he loved to share. He was always willing to share his stories with anyone that would listen. He was a member of Noordeloos CRC in Holland. He looked forward to the day when he would meet his Lord and Savior.
John worked several jobs through the years including Bohn Aluminum and Hope College. His favorite was being dad, grandpa, great grandpa, and great great grandpa.
John is survived by: his 4 daughters, Jean (Keith) Bakker, Nancy (Mike) Wolters, Lois (Todd) Yonker, and Lori (Craig) Rose. He had 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. 2 more great great grandchildren soon to be born.
A visitation for John will be held Monday, December 23, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Noordeloos Christian Reformed Church, 4055 112th Ave, Holland, MI 49424, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Noordeloos Christian Reformed Church.
