John A. Buursma, on January 9, received the promised crown of righteousness having finished his race of 90 years, keeping his faith in Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior. We give thanks to God for creating John with a tender, although fragile heart, a humble spirit, and a deep love for God, church and family. John was loyal, loving of his wife, Barb of 67 years, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. John held tightly to relationships and his deep fondness of Friesland, shuffleboard, and cars. His loyalty came with generosity. He willingly gave of his time and resources to benefit others. We give thanks to God for his many acts of kindness.
John’s wife, Barbara, his children, Sue and Dick Landman, Kathy and Greg Door, and Randy and Debra Buursma, and John’s brother, Andy and Pat Buursma, and Barbara’s siblings Wilbert Wichers, Theresa Wiltjer, and Bernie and Lynne Wiegers will miss him deeply. John was blessed with grandchildren, Renee Wagenaar, Tom Wagenaar, Dan and Rachel Door, Jenelle and Jake Vlietstra, Nathan and Jackie Door, Ben and Becky Buursma, Derek and Deqa Elmi-Buursma, and Erica and Josh Klenz and 9 great grandchildren who provided so much joy throughout John’s life, especially in the last few years when physical limitations intensified. John is preceded in death by siblings Reverend William & Althea Buursma, Florence and Simon VanderKooy, and Kathy and Ken Lambers.
Visitation with the family will occur on Wednesday, January 13, from 12:00 pm to 1:45 pm at Providence Church. A memorial service celebrating God’s faithfulness in John’s life will commence at 2:00 pm. The family requests that masks and social distancing be observed. Memorial gifts may be sent to Holland Christian Schools.
