Bud served in The U.S. Marine Corp from 1950 to 1953 in The Korean War where he was awarded A Purple Heart. He enjoyed a career in auto sales at VerHage of Holland for many years, and drove truck for Holland Special Delivery for a few years during retirement. He was always known as a "second dad" to friends and relatives, welcoming all into his home, with a warm smile. He loved to fish and spend time with friends and relatives out on his patio. He was famous for his fried perch and his chocolate malteds, which his grandkids especially loved. Bud was gentle, generous, and kind. His quick wit and intelligence were only outmatched by his reverence and willingness to help anyone who needed it.
He is survived by his children: Mickey Grotenhuis, Mitch (Marilou) Kamphuis, Joel (Marie) Kamphuis, and Jamy (Noel) Rodriguez. Also surviving him are his grandkids and great-grandkids: Phil (Mandy) Kamphuis, Addison, Jack, Graham, Charley Kamphuis, Aaron (Sarah) Kamphuis, Austin, Eli, Adam, and Valerie, Andy (Cara) Kamphuis, Liam and Amelia, Curtis, and Regi, Z Kamphuis, Morgan (Brandon) Chapman, his brother Jerry (Dotty) Kamphuis, and several nieces & nephews. All received his unconditional love.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Beth, his parents, Nicholas and Frances Kamphuis, his sister Elizabeth VanKluyve, his brothers, Bernie and Frank Kamphuis, and his grandson, Nicholas Kamphuis.
