Chuck was born in Charlevoix, Michigan to Ernest Gustav Wingard and Fannybelle Siminow Wingard. Chuck spent his early childhood in Charlevoix with his three brothers; Harold Wingard, Robert Wingard, and John Wingard, and later in Holland, Michigan where he spent his days fishing and exploring the shores and waters of the lakes.
Chuck attended Holland High School and after graduating, joined the Army Air Force and was stationed at Bentwater Air Force Base in Cambridgeshire, England. Upon completion of his service, Chuck returned to Holland, Michigan and began his career as a pressman with the Holland Sentinel. He later moved to Irvine, California, where he formed his own 38-year printing business. Chuck retired with his wife, Anne Wingard (Considine) to his childhood town of Holland, Michigan where they lived on Lake Macatawa. They enjoyed boating in his vintage wooden boat “The Phoenix”, canoeing, and having his family over, especially the grandchildren. His family would gather to hear him tell all about the lore of Holland. Some of the best stories Chuck liked to tell came from the time spent on his father’s tourist excursion boat, “The Wolverine”, which plied Lake Macatawa and out into Lake Michigan. A favorite story was when Chuck and his father “Cap” would pull up to the Ottawa Beach breakwater during rough weather, much to the thrill of the passengers.
Chuck will always be remembered for his smile, witty humor, ability to fix anything, delivering meals on wheels in the community, and for sharing his past adventures through his many stories. Chuck is survived by his wife, Anne Wingard (Considine), and his children, Charles Richard Wingard and his wife, Lorena; Philip Wingard and his wife, Anna; Michael Wingard and his wife, Michele; Lisa Baba (Wingard) and her husband, David; Melissa Flores (Wingard) and her husband, David; stepson Matt Cronin; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held for Chuck at Brookside Cemetery, Charlevoix, Michigan later in the Spring.
