Betty lived a full life along the lakeshore of Holland MI. She was the Resort Manager at Point West for several years and enjoyed greeting her guests and coordinating the annual Point West Fashion show. Betty was a member of the Holland Junior Welfare League, Macatawa Bay Yacht Club and Christ Memorial Church.
In the day, Betty was a Water Ski Instructor and could frequently be spotted on Lake Macatawa or on just about any golf course. She thoroughly enjoyed and created so many great memories with friends and family. Other passions included sewing, knitting and entertaining.
Betty was preceded in death by her former husband, Edwin Nyland, her parents, Henry and Hattie, her sons, Steven (Steve) Nyland, and Thomas (Tom) Nyland. Grandson, Eric Nyland and all her six siblings, Jean (Herb) Lugers, Edna (Mike) Bender, Lee (Rhetts) Helmink, Cecil Helmink, Carl (Don) Gilcrest, Jane (Roger) Wiersma.
Betty is survived by her son, Jeff (Holly) Nyland, grandson Chris (Julia) Nyland. Daughters-in-law, Barb Nyland and Cyndi Nyland. Grandsons, Jim (Ruth) Hooker Kort Nyland, granddaughters, Samantha (fiancé Jesse Mercado), Tauren Nyland. Great grandchildren, Kacee, Maddie and Ben Nyland and Joseph Nyland. Sister-in-law, Shirley Helmink and several nieces and nephews.
A private graveside ceremony is being planned on a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Macatawa Bay Yacht Club (MBJA Junior Sailing Program), 2157 South Shore Dr, Macatawa MI 49423 and Holland Junior Welfare League, P.O. Box 1643, Holland MI 49422.
