He was born in Alliance, OH in 1935. He attended Mount Union College (University) graduating with a chemistry degree; he continued his work in chemistry at Northwestern University. He began employment with Dow Chemical Company, Midland, Michigan. He returned to graduate school at the University of Michigan and earned a master’s in political science. William married Nancy Greenhoe in 1962; they lived in Hong Kong and returned to Midland in 1973 until Bill’s retirement. In 1999, they moved to Signal Mountain where Bill was active with the Tennessee River Gorge Trust and trails on Signal Mountain. He also worked on preserving Bear Lake (Michigan) through the Bear Lake Watershed Alliance.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, his brother, and sister. Surviving are his children, Betsy of Chattanooga and Andrew of San Antonio, two grandsons, and beloved nieces and nephews.
